Our First Share

On Saturday, we picked up our first CSA share from Dragonfly Farms. There was a little drama and confusion on the time and location. But I guess that is expected for the first day.

Below is a picture of our goodys.

We received:
1 small bouquet of cut flowers
1 lb of Ground coffee from ZeZe's in Baltimore
.68 lbs of freshly made maple sausage links
1 loaf of Organic Sourdough Wheat bread
12 brown eggs
6.67 oz bottle of Dragonfly Farms Wine Vinegar
1 pint strawberries
1 large bag of spinach
2 bunches of romaine lettuce
1 large bunch of radishes
1 very large bunch of kale
2 vine ripe tomatoes
1 bunch of cilantro
4 small baby bok hoy
1 bundle of scallions
1 bundle of asparagus

I made up the following menu to incorporate our bounty.

Waffles with maple sausage and fresh fruit salad (using eggs, maple sausage and the rest of the strawberries)
Baked Felafel with Tzatziki Sauce (cilantro, romaine lettuce, and tomatoes)
Spinach Pesto with roasted vegetables (spinach, radishes, and asparagus)
Cheeseburgers with kale chips and fries (kale, lettuce and tomatoes)
Refried Rice (scallions, baby bok choy, and asparagus)

We only received half of our monthly items. We should receive local Maryland honey, 1/2 lb cheese and Dragonfly's Herbal tea next week.

We were suppose to get rhubarb this week but it was not in the crate. I was reassured that we would be able to get some next week. I am super excited about rhubarb because I have always wanted to make Rhubarb and Strawberry Pie. But the Rhubarb at the grocery store always looks so sad.  So stay tuned for that.

So far, I would say I'm impressed with the quality and quantity of the items.

    1. Dragonfly Farms is the farm. Here is the CSA website, just click on the "contact us" link at the bottom. I am not sure if they are still accepting CSA share requests. But it doesn't hurt to ask...

  2. I wasn't really that impressed with the maple sausage. Oh well, the waffles were delicious. The felafel was suprisingly delicious... as I ate all of it.
